Cinque Terre

Jessi is not a morning person

Cinque Terre translates to 5 towns.  And they are 5 small towns on the Northwestern coast of Italy.  Beautiful.  They are close enough that you can hike between them but the weather kept threatening rain so we only walked on the shortest trail.

The boats are kept in town and lowered over the cliffs by ropes and pulleys.  Most(all) of the boats were on land due to very rough water.

I was the only one that got in the water to go swimming.  While it does look pretty calm in this photo it really wasn't.  There was a breaker here which killed some of the waves but they were coming from several different angles in towards the beach.  There were several undercurrents as well.  All of this still adds up to smaller wave and less undertow than what I experienced in Hawaii as a Freshman in college.  (They called for the biggest surfing competition on the North Shore in the same month I was there in 2005)
Mostly what kept the stronger swimmers out of the water was the temperature.  I guess 75 degrees is too cold to swim in now.  This is also where I got my Italian name. Pesce Lino.  Little Fish.  Alessia's boyfriend (both are native Italian) asked me if I was from Alaska.  To him Minnesota was close enough.

This is what the water looked like without a breaker.

People normally sit in that piazza.
